There’s a moment every senior year parent knows is coming, even if it sneaks up on you — the “wait, they’re really about to graduate” moment. Senior portraits are usually what triggers it. One minute they’re starting kindergarten, and the next you’re picking out outfits for photos that’ll hang on the wall long after they’ve moved out.

If you’re in Loudoun County and starting to think about senior pictures, here’s what I’d want you to know before you book anything.

Loudoun County is honestly one of the best places in Northern Virginia to do this. I get to work with historic brick streets in downtown Leesburg, wide open fields at Ida Lee Park, the elegant grounds at Morven Park, and vineyards that turn golden in early fall. Not many photographers get this much variety within a 20-minute drive, and it means every senior’s photos can actually look different depending on who they are — not like they came off an assembly line.

When to Book

Most of my senior families book between late spring and early fall, before fall sports and college apps take over everyone’s schedule. September and October are my busiest months because of the light and the leaves, so if you have your eye on a specific weekend, I’d reach out 4-6 weeks ahead.

A Quick Note on Outfits

Bring two or three options if you can — something casual, something a little dressier. Solid colors tend to photograph best against Loudoun’s backdrops, and simple patterns age better than trends that’ll look dated in ten years.
